Welcoming your baby into the world is one of the most intimate and fleeting moments you’ll ever experience — and Fresh 48 photography is all about preserving those first raw, beautiful hours. As a NYC-based photographer, I’ve documented countless sessions at NewYork-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women & Newborns, and it’s one of my favorite spaces to work in for its calm environment, spacious rooms, and incredibly supportive staff.
Whether you’re a first-time parent or adding another little one to your family, here’s what to expect if you book a Fresh 48 session and delivering at Alexandra Cohen:
A Fresh 48 session is a documentary-style photo session that takes place within the first 24–48 hours after your baby is born, typically right in your hospital room. These sessions are natural, unposed, and capture your baby exactly as they are — vernix, wrinkled toes, hospital bracelets, and all the little details you never want to forget.
Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NewYork-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women & Newborns offers private postpartum rooms with large windows and plenty of natural light — a dream for lifestyle photography. The staff is warm, respectful, and familiar with outside photographers, which makes sessions feel seamless and supported.
Fresh 48 sessions are typically done the day after your birth, giving you time to soak up the snuggles and take a shower before I come. I’ll coordinate with you (or a partner or support person) by text, and once your baby has arrived, we’ll coordinate the timing!
Every session is unique, but here’s what I often photograph:
No need to style anything — Fresh 48 is about simplicity. A swaddle or outfit you love, a going-home blanket, and anything personal you want to include (a special onesie, heirloom toy, or nameplate) are all great. Alexandra Cohen provides neutral hospital linens and soft lighting, so you don’t have to overthink it and when you book with me you get access to the client guide- with my advice on what to bring, what colors photograph best and even links to the best newborn outfits that fit those tiny legs and arms.
If you’re giving birth at Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women & Newborns and want to document your baby’s first hours in a gentle, honest way — I’d be honored to be there. These sessions are quiet, respectful, and centered around whatever pace you’re moving at. Your story deserves to be remembered just as it is.
